The ASI project will follow the format of the SCOPE RAPs-Rapid Assessment Projects (see annex). Publication of the workshop findings is foreseen with Island Press, the publisher of the SCOPE Series.

The Workshop Process

The workshop will aim at the review, synthesis and assessment of indicators of sustainable development vis a vis the ASI criteria. To that effect, the workshop will involve not only scientific experts, but also users, whether decision-makers and policy-planners, practitioners or other stakeholders at different levels.

Following the RAP model, discussions at the workshop will build on background chapters that are written and circulated to participants before the workshop as well as additional working materials. The working materials will be an annotated list of selected indicators and sets of indicators (i.e. topics for the assessment) and selected methodologies and overviews related documents (cf.annexes). 

Three working groups will assess selected indicators and/or sets of indicators, providing cross cutting perspectives to formulate a forward-looking analysis for the assessment of sustainability indicators. The criteria for each cross cut group, based on the following lists, will be identified and approved during the initial plenary session. Each working group will develop a chapter for the ASI book; this first draft of the cross cut chapter will be due before the end of the workshop week.
