The city as a space for creative learning

The city as a space for creative learning is a two-year project aimed at primary and secondary school students in Jihlava and its surroundings (09/2020-06/2022). Several schools will simultaneously run programmes focusing on active citizenship in various fields: ecology, democracy, national minorities, public space, etc. Thanks to the cooperation with artists and Jihlava personalities from the ranks of active citizens, professional outputs such as an exhibition, video, comics, theatre performances will be created on these topics. All the class projects, or schools involved in the project, will receive publicity thanks to a student online TV, a joint professional exhibition and a children's Pecha Kucha. The pupils will thus have the opportunity to reach not only their classmates and parents, but also the general public.

Project description

The City as a Space for Creative Learning project connects schools and creative professionals so that children and artists can work together to create authentic testimonies focused on current events in Jihlava. We believe that children and young people can express themselves responsibly on contemporary issues in society, that they are important partners in the debate, provided they are given methodical support and trust. The project uses creative learning to develop pupils' action competences and to promote young people's self-concept as someone who can initiate change in the public sphere.
